What is a Destination Group?
In Menterprise Publishing you are able to post your pages to subdomains, sometimes with categories, across multiple domains with the linking done for you. Where the pages end up, their domains, subdomains and categories are all based on destination selections - a group of these selections is called a "Destination Group" or "DG".
Multiple Levels
The reason we don't call these "subdomain" or "domain" groups is that a single destination group can have different levels of specificity. Essentially, you are able to select domains, subdomains within domains or categories within subdomains - all within the same group.
Another way of explaining this is you could select one.com which would include all subdomains and all categories. We could then also drill into two.com and select 5 specific subdomains. Our group would now contain one.com and all it's subdomains/categories and then 5 of two.com's specific subdomains with all their categories.
We could go even further and select specific categories within specific subdomains - at this point you can see how there are multiple levels.
Practical Example
Let's say we have 5 domains and we're going to be creating 10 subdomains for each service for our client. Our client does plumbing, roofing and fencing. When creating our subdomains we could create all at once OR we could create three seperate sets - one for plumbing (and group it by selecting "ADD TO DESTINATION GROUP"), one for roofing and one for fencing. Then, when we launch our campaign, we can have relevant plumbing content go to our plumbing network by selecting the plumbing destination group.
Creating a Destination Group
Usually this is done for us when we create subdomains or categories, but sometimes we want to do it by hand. To do this we go to the Destination Groups section then clicking "CREATE DESTINATION GROUP". From there we give our group a name, a colour, and select the domains/subdomains/categories that make up our group.
